We went into self-quarantine on March 14, 2020. No one knew how long it would last, or how intense it would be. We just knew we had to lock it down and wait. Throughout our quarantine, we kept track of our day to day—what else was there to do? Here’s our family log of our first 60 days in lockdown, with pictures and the occasional audio interview.
Days 36-39
Sunday was a bum-around day. Camille got big into the Legos, and we built robots and vehicles. (The one on the left is mine; lots of moving parts. Still got it. Still. Got it.)
Monday, Colleen and I took a walk outside of the house, without kids, and I don't remember the last time we did that, because coronatime is not measurable. Shelter Gardens is in full bloom, and it's gorgeous. Especially the tulips.
The girls and I took time to do an interview. The chewing is either going to make you bonkers or work for some kind of ASMR or something:
Tuesday afternoon/evening ended up warm and relaxed. Essie created a "parking lot" in the driveway with sidewalk chalk and most of the child vehicles on hand. Camille scraped her toe riding a strider bike down the hill barefoot (I told her to wear shoes, but hey, physics lesson)...a quick wash up and bandage, and we were back at it. We ended up exploring the woods, and found a woodpecker shredding a log. The guy really went at it...my hand for scale...
Leen spent a couple hours doing yardwork. If you look closely, you can spot her amidst the jungle.
Wednesday we were completely exhausted because a certain someone just does not sleep, and so we just do not sleep...finally got to bed around 5am, and slept in a bit, but...oof.
But we closed the day with a remote recorder lesson from Bobbo (their grandpa) after baths. Really adorable and squawky way to cap hump day. Duets and trios are in our immediate future, I can feel it.
Day 40
40 days. 40 nights. Like Noah.
Noah, get the boat.
Days 41-42
As far as I can tell from the lack of photographic evidence, nothing happened on Friday, Day 41, except for [insert daily samezies].
Saturday, Day 42, had more. Camille started doing this thing where she gets up early, gets her own breakfast, turns on Bach Cello Suites, and conks out on the couch for hours. [shrugs]
We mostly ignored the children for the middle part of the day, letting them rot their brains on screens (holla Animal Crossing and Zelda) while disappearing into yardwork, hiding under headphones with podcasts and audiobooks.
Later, we did some light kayaking. Get a load of this big kid handling the little lake all by herself. And then she took Camille out for a spin on a double inflatable kayak.
Also, I can’t get over this outfit she put together (in like 5 minutes) for water time.
ALSO. We have crossed the six-week mark.
