Camille is 7 and endlessly creative. She'll sometimes spend hours quietly doing art by herself. (Don't get it wrong—she's a hurricane of a person most of the time, and usually the very loud center of attention, often via song and dance. The quiet art time is sporadic and wonderful.)
Recently, she wrote a (short) illustrated book for children called "My Life." It is precisely as profound as you'd expect of a wee one, but commensurately as adorable.
She wanted to share her work by doing a li’l storytell on video. I think she's inspired by Bookmarks, this wonderful Netflix show where accomplished and talented and interesting Black people read children's books that were written by other accomplished and talented and interesting Black people.
So we made a similar thing. She's a bit subdued, though—for some reason, she goes very calm and slow on camera. I think she's concentrating? It means a lot to her to perform well, and when she has an actual audience, she gets kind of...in her own head I guess. But still delivers the product!
Please enjoy the (very) short film, "My Life," written and directed and narrated by, and starring, Camille. Based on the book "My Life," which was written and illustrated by Camille, based on the real life of Camille. Adapted for the screen by Camille.
Cinematography and (most of the) editing by me, her proud and enchanted Dad. Final cut approved by Camille.
Disclaimer: Camille allows me to post her work only with her express permission, and on a case-by-case basis. She granted permission in this case.
Camille, you did it! Way to go! Writing a book is such a big accomplishment. Thank you for sharing. Can't wait to see what you do next!
Camille, you never cease to amaze me! Great job writing, illustrating and sharing.
My favorite part of this is getting to hear your precious voice ❤!
